Epic’s Unreal Engine 4 Gets Demoed On The Nexus 5 (Video)

Epic Games has been working on Unreal Engine 4 for quite some time. In fact, it was back in 2005 when the company’s vice president has announced that they’re working on UE4. Fast forward until around two years ago (February 2012), and Mark Rein was announcing that people are going to be amazed when they’ll get to see Unreal Engine 4 in action. Granted, some people were able to see the engine at GDC 2012, but the demonstration took place in front of a limited number of attendees.

Fast forward to 2014 and Unreal Engine 4 received more exposure as the engine has been once again demoed during GDC. The interesting part – at least for smartphone enthusiasts – is that the engine has not only been showcased on a computer, but on the Nexus 5 as well. Check back after the break for details.

Indeed, while we were expecting an engine like UE4 to be showcased on a gadget that would be powered by the 192 CUDA cores of the Nvidia K1, it appears that Epic Games has decided to demo its engine on the Nexus 5. Check out the video below.

Looks pretty sweet, doesn’t it? What’s even sweeter is that we might get to see numerous games taking advantage of UE 4 in the foreseeable future. The reason for saying this is because, one of the biggest strengths of Unreal Engine 4 is its user friendliness. Developers will have a much easier time creating environments, as game assets can be easily dropped in the game world, resized and modeled. The textures can also be added by simply selecting a texture asset and applying it on the desired surface. Looks like the mobile gaming segment might take yet another leap forward, and we’re very eager to see the engine in action in a real product. Any thoughts? Share them below.
