Over the last few weeks, everyone has been talking about rumors about Android 4.2 and the LG Nexus. Sadly, as most know by now, many of those rumors were hoaxes. Thankfully, the LG Nexus ones look to be pretty legitimate.
While the LG Nexus may not have a release date yet, you can try out some Android 4.2 goodness right now...
XDA Recognized Contributor mrmako777 has posted a thread that guides users through the installation process for the latest Gmail application. How new is it? It’s from a version of Android that hasn’t actually been released yet. The Gmail APK is from Android 4.2, and it’s pretty much everyone’s first glimpse at the latest version of Android.
Installation is pretty easy, but you may need root. You have to uninstall your current Gmail app. If it is a system app, you’ll need root to get rid of it. Once it is gone, install the new Gmail APK. That’s it. Features for the new Gmail include:
Swipe actions (swipe to archive, swipe to delete)
Pinch to zoom
Individual attachment management
Probably more
If you need help installing or want to see it in action first, XDA Recognized Contributorqbking77 posted a helpful video. If you’d like to try some real Android 4.2 goodness, you can find it, along with qbking77′s video, in the original thread.
